We are recruiting new members for the Canadian Association for Food Studies (CAFS) board of directors.

The workload expectations of board members are moderate – the board generally meets by video call once a month. Tasks include helping to organize the annual conference, addressing issues of concern to the CAFS membership, and allocating funding as required. All positions have the same voice in decision-making and some positions have specific responsibilities. Currently, we are requesting nominations for a finance lead (treasurer) and non-specified Board member positions.

CAFS is committed to creating a diverse and inclusive environment. As such, we encourage nominations from equity-deserving groups including members of racialized groups, Indigenous persons, persons with disabilities, women, and persons of any sexual orientation, gender identity or gender expression. All faculty (tenured and non-tenured), students, advocates, and practitioners are encouraged to apply. We are particularly looking for individuals with previous experience on other boards as well as faculty/practitioners to join us.

If you would like to nominate someone or self-nominate, please send a short (150 words max) bio statement to cafsadmin@foodstudies.ca by Dec. 7th, 2023. The bio should include an introduction (e.g. your affiliation and areas of research and/or related professional practice) as well as any relevant experience (e.g., membership on organizational or academic committees) you wish to share. You must be registered as a CAFS member by the time you join the board.
